Malaysian government has set a goal to achieve 20% clean energy and EduCity shows support by signing a Tripartite Agreement on Sustainable Renewable Energy
KUALA LUMPUR, 29 JULY 2019 (MONDAY) – EduCity continues to strive by creating a sustainable future for the EduCity community with the extension of another milestone by signing a Tripartite Agreement on Sustainable Renewable Energy with GSPARX Sdn Bhd and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) today. This 25-year agreement brings RM2.22 million of savings with Zero Capital Agreement shows a smart partnership that benefits community and environment as a whole.
This initiative was led by Digital Pulse, a unit under Iskandar Innovations Sdn Bhd (IISB), a wholly owned subsidiary of Iskandar Investment Bhd on behalf Iskandar Education Enterprise Sdn Bhd (IEESB), the operating entity under EduCity.
IISB, responsible to spearhead the digital and technology developments in the Iskandar Malaysia region, had identified two (2) main locations in the education hub, namely the Multi Varsity Center and a stretch of walkway where they respectively generate 152kWp and the latter being 130kWp, resulting in a total of 282kWp. Annually these two locations will generate 344,816kWh/pa.
Datuk Ir Khairil Anwar Ahmad, Chairman of EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd said, “I am proud being part of this agreement, an extraordinary opportunity for the generation and future which promote a cleaner environment and an increase productivity of our economy. This is definitely an opportunity we should seize and I thank both Digital Pulse and also EduCity who works closely in making this happened. Kudos to the team!”.
The Chairman also tapped on Climate Change on which he said, “Climate change happened everywhere. The world is heating up and it sometimes threatens lives, peace and prosperity. We need to do something otherwise our future generation will face difficulty facing the mother nature. Through this pioneer initiative, EduCity is the first premise in Iskandar Puteri who chose to sign the Supply Agreement of Renewable Energy (SARE) agreement with GSPARX and looks forward to its tremendous benefits.”
The aims of achieving the goal to a cleaner energy is spearheaded by Encik Wan Ahmad Saifuddin Wan Ahmad Radzi, Director of Iskandar EduCity Enterprise Sdn Bhd which during his presentation said, “EduCity is 300-acre fully integrated education hub that hosts top institutes and universities around the world with first-class facilities. This smart partnership is a part of our contribution to the community and our future leaders where the first year of the agreement will see an estimate savings up to RM31,354. Imagine driving back that amount of money for the betterment of the hub and provide a better and more sustainable student experience.”
Expected to be ready by February 2020, EduCity will also feature a new student hub that is designed to be the main hive for student’s activities as it is envisioned to be run by the students for the students. Other exciting upgrades that is in the pipeline for the next one year includes a new warm up pool that will be located at the Aquatic Center (EduCity Sports Complex), a new rugby field and a petrol station.
